Welcome to (a small subset of) my brain. Stay awhile. Have a look around.

Apropos of nothing, I thought I’d share my thoughts on shaving using a double edge (DE) razor.

I bought it around a year and a half ago and have enjoyed using it from the start.  There were some not-so-pleasant shaves at first, but after a couple weeks I got the hang of it and once you get the technique down it’s quite fun.  You just have to make sure not to press down too hard (let the razor do the work) and go with the grain on the first go-round.

And using the brush to apply the soap just makes the whole process feel official, like you’re at the barber or something.

The best part though, is how much cheaper it is (unless, maybe, you use the very cheap disposable razors).  My razor was $28.00 and came with 10 blades, which last about a week each.  The soap was $9.00 and it’s only about halfway through by now.  The brush was $13.50 and I expect it to last another couple years.  After I went through the initial 10 blades, I ordered a pack of 100 for $15.00.   Considering a pack of 10 Gillette Mach III razors costs $24.00, I’d say that’s a pretty good deal (plus, the pack I ordered came with a nifty cardboard holder that you can hang on the wall!).

Anyway, if anyone is thinking of trying it, I highly recommend it!
